Is it possible to increase the temperature of a gas without adding heat to it? Explain.

Hint: Use the first law of thermodynamics.
Yes, during adiabatic compression, the temperature of a gas increases while no heat is
given to it.
Step 1: Find the change in internal energy in adiabatic compression.
In adiabatic compression,                     dQ=0
 From the first law of thermodynamics, dU=dQ-dW
                                                            dU=-dW
In compression, the work is done on the gas i.e., the work done is negative.
Therefore, dU = Positive
Hence, the internal energy of the gas increases due to which its temperature increases.
